We are teaming up with our friends at Back to Basics to develop a project very kindly funded by Norfolk Community Foundation via the Love Norfolk Youth Social Action Fund. This project will develop young people's leadership, teamworking and problem solving as well as provide opportunity to learn new skills through the use of bushcraft and Insight into the outdoor learning environment and allow delegates to apply for Assistant

  • Learning to work as a group and on their own
  • Explore initiative and secure wellbeing through hands on learning.
  • Take on and achieve group leader roles which will increase confidence and employability in this or other mentoring roles.
  • Learn new skills such as problem solving, teamwork and leadership
  • Grow in confidence and aspiration
  • Relate skills learnt to their journey to employment and independent living skills.

The course delivers the following modules;

  • Introduction to the Outdoor Learning environment
  • Health & Safety in the outdoors with groups
  • First Aid
  • Firelighting
  • Water purification
  • Use and application of sharp tools ( knife & axe)
  • Shelters
  • Team Building
  • John Muir Award

The project will also see young people design, develop and deliver their own community volunteering project that benefits the local community. This could be the design and build of a new bushcraft area for use by local school children and young people or a conservation project.
